Jose's Tailgate
Jose and 6-12 of his high school friends, who all met back in Woodstock, Ill., have a longstanding annual tradition of traveling from all sides of the country to a Bears game. Their reunion this year is outside Northwest Stadium, where Jose — who now lives in Texas — leads the tailgate as the head grillmaster.
“I grew up with the Bears. I grew up in Chicago, so it was one of those things that you have to be a fan. The atmosphere and everything at Soldier Field — it was awesome.”
“I live in San Antonio, Texas. We’ve been doing this for about eight years now where we all live in different places, and we meet up at an away game to keep the tradition going. They usually drive, I usually fly and we do a tailgate.”
Week 8
Bryan &Cathy's Tailgate
Bryan and his wife, Cathy, traveled an hour and a half from their home in Virginia to Washington, D.C. to “throw a mean tailgate” and represent their beloved Bears on the road. Despite being born in Wisconsin, Cathy was different and rooted for the Bears — a fandom she passed to her husband, a native of New Jersey who is now equally as passionate about the Monsters of the Midway as she is.
“I married into a Bears family 40 years ago. I met her in ’83, so it was real easy to be a Bears fan. I’m from New Jersey but I wasn’t an Eagles, Jets or Giants fan, so I became a Bears fan.” – Bryan
“I am from about 45 minutes from Green Bay, but my family, for whatever reason, were Bears fans and not Green Bay fans. All of my friends up there are Packers fans except for me.” - Cathy
